From the moment you arrive at Monte Rei, you are made aware of the high standard of service you will encounter during your visit, a standard rarely provided outside the best of US private clubs.

Immaculate carts, you will need one, appropriately furnished with all the goodies to make your round more enjoyable, including course books, repair tools and an assortment of towels and water. The practice academy with its own café and well laid out facilities encourage an early arrival to prepare for your outing on this stylish Nicklaus layout.

Located inland from the sea in this most easterly and mainly undeveloped area of the Algarve. Already it is rated in the top three of Portuguese courses, which is hard to believe considering it opened in 2007. The fairways are immaculate and the small highly contoured greens even more so. With 15 minute intervals between start times - Valderrama is the only other course in Europe that we know that offers this luxury; it is unlikely that you will encounter too many others on the course. Making its way through valleys offering occasional views of the sea below, with plenty of sand and imaginative water features, this must become a top 100 course especially once the surrounding rough and trees mature.

Take time to enjoy the club house facilities after the round. You will find your street shoes will have been shined while you are on the course and immaculate changing facilities will encourage smartening up before making your way to the stylish 19th hole.
